Matthew Knies Reveals Which NHL Player He Looked Up To The Most
Matthew Knies, the Maple Leafs' top prospect, made an interesting statement about his favorite player growing up.
Knies Opens Up
When he was younger, Knies was a huge Coyotes fan, just like fellow Arizonan Auston Matthews.
We all know that Matthews' favorite is Shane Doan. Knies' pick is more surprising.
The rookie told ESPN that he looked up to Mikkel Boedker.
"That's why I wore No. 89 growing up. Just really fast, really speedy. He was quick and scored goals. I think he was the most electric player on the team at that time."
A Surprising Pick?
Doan was obviously the fan-favorite in Arizona, but Knies preferred the Danish winger Mikkel Boedker.
Boedker was drafted eighth overall by the Coyotes in 2008 and played eight seasons between 2008 and 2016.
His most successful season in Arizona was in 2013-14, when he scored 19 goals. At the time, Knies was a 12-year-old fan.
If idolizing Boedker helped him get where he is, then who are we to judge?
