The Toronto Maple Leafs once again came up short last summer losing in the Stanley Cup Finals Game 7 to the Boston Bruins. After the loss Mitch Marner took much of the blame. Beyond that General Manager Brad Treliving put his stamp on the team hiring Craig Berube as the new head coach.
After the hiring many questioned the future of Mitch Marner with the Toronto Maple Leafs. However, as of now he remains on the roster and has now made a major change heading into the 2024-25 NHL season.
A new video has surfaced online showing Mitch Marner back on the ice training for the 2024-25 NHL season. Everything looks mostly the same however Mitch Marner has made one major change to his skates. Reports from Nick Barden of The Hockey News have revealed Mitch Marner is changing from black to white skates for the time being.
Below is a video posted to Instagram where Mitch Marner can be seen skating and doing drills while sporting the white skates.
Beyond the new skate color this also marks the earliest that Mitch Marner has been seriously training for a season in his time with the Maple Leafs. Particularly during the Sheldon Keefe era Mitch Marner was never seen training as early as July.
With Mitch Marner being in the final year of his contract it begs the question whether or not Mitch Marner will come out of the gates with something to prove.
Heading into the 2024-25 NHL season it remains to be seen if Mitch Marner will be using these skates in the games. He has used them once in the past during the most recent All-Star game. Once training camp begins this will truly reveal if Mitch Marner will be rocking new skates.
