Today a new report has indicated that Toronto Maple Leafs star defenseman Morgan Rielly is currently in a legal battle with the City of Toronto.

The legal battles come after Morgan Rielly and Tessa Virtue bought a house together. After buying the house they wanted to make some changes in partciular changing the outside of the house from red to white. After hiring a person to do this the contract was put on hold by the Heritage Department of Toronto.

The city's heritage department claims that the change from red to white would undermine the character of the property, though ultimately it will be city council that gets the final say on whether the paint job can continue forward or not.

Morgan Rielly becomes the second Toronto Maple Leaf to be in a legal battle with the government. John Tavares is also challenging a decision made by the CRA regarding his taxes.

The CRA is disputing a claim by Toronto Maple Leafs captain John Tavares that the USD $15.25 million the team paid him in 2018 was a signing bonus, saying that that the amount was effectively a form of salary and should be taxed at a higher rate.

Hopefully, these off-ice distractions for the Maple Leafs' biggest stars will not detract from their offseason training as the summer continues on. It remains to be seen what the team will look like next season but both Morgan Rielly and John Tavares are likely to be a big part of the plans.
