The official list of attendees for the NHLPA Rookie Showcase has been released. To the delight of Toronto Maple Leafs fans Easton Cowan has been included in the events.
With his name now on this exclusive list it has opened up the possibility that Easton Cowan could see NHL action during the 2024-25 NHL season. After his success in the OHL Easton Cowan could be ready for a major role with the Maple Leafs.
Last season despite not playing an NHL game Easton Cowan took major steps forward towards his goal of playing in the NHL. In his 54 OHL regular season games Easton Cowan put up an astounding 96 points. He followed that up in the postseason with 34 points in 18 games. Due to his dominance, Easton Cowan was awarded both the regular season and playoff MVP.
Now heading into the upcoming NHL season Easton Cowan should have a ton of confidence and challenge for a roster spot. Due to the fact that Easton Cowan would have to go back to the OHL if he does not make the Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving and head coach Craig Berube should give him every chance to make the roster.
If Easton Cowan ends up going back to the OHL there is not much more for him to prove there. The Maple Leafs will need to be careful that he doesn't adopt bad habits playing in a league that is potentially below his skill level.
