A new quote from Sheldon Keefe's press conference with the New Jersey Devils about his former organization, the Maple Leafs, raises eyebrows in Toronto.
In a first interview since being hired by his new team, the former Leafs coach made a declaration that wasn't well received in Toronto.
Leaving the biggest market in the NHL after five seasons to join the Devils in New Jersey is a big step his Keefe's career. Either it's a step up or a step down is up for debates.
Keefe mentionned that many well-established coaches seem to believe it's a step up. In fact, he revealed that he got a lot of texts saying that he should be happy to join the "real NHL".
"It was a tremendous honour to coach the Maple Leafs. There's a lot that goes into that. I've had a number of well-established coaches in the league reach out to say I should be happy now that I get to coach in the real NHL. Toronto is quite unique, it's not like the rest of the league."
Keefe probably already seen the differences between New Jersey and Toronto. If not, it won't be long until he notices how he gets less attention and pressure from the fans and the media.
Do you think the Toronto Maple Leafs made a mistake by firing Sheldon Keefe?
