Marty Turco believes Joseph Woll is the next Jake Oettinger
The former NHL goalie Marty Turco made a major declaration about Toronto Maple Leafs' Joseph Woll by saying he's the next Jake Oettinger.
Turco, who played in the NHL between 2000 and 2012 for the Dallas Stars, Chicago Blackhawks and Boston Bruins, had some great words for the Leafs' young goalie.
In a podcast, he mentionned that while it's hard for most goalies to find the rhythm and confident needed to perform in the NHL, Woll does it well. Turco added that he believes Woll could be as good as the Dallas Stars' goalie Jake Oettinger, who's currently doing a good job in the Western Conference Finals against the Edmonton Oilers.
Here's what Turco said:
I love what he's doing but I think from the surface, for me anyway, the game alone, yeah, I think he could be [as good as Oettinger]. He does have the pedigree but it's a lot of ups and downs and you have to avoid the downs and stay on the ups, right, and ride that thing out and I think that's what he can do."
This is what Leafs fans want to hear. After a tough season with Ilya Samsonov as number one goalie, the team needs a real talent in front of the net. They had it for a few games in the playoffs, but unfortunately, an injury forced him to miss game seven against the Boston Bruins in the first round.
If Woll truly bcomes as good as Oettinger, the Leafs could be on their way to making their biggest playoff run in years, and maybe even winning their first Stanley Cup since 1967.
