Hockey analyst and former NHLer Paul Bissonnette said on 'Leafs Morning Take' with Nick Alberga and Jay Rosehill, that he had one player in mind when asked who he felt would be a good addition to the Toronto Maple Leafs roster.
Laughton, 30, is a former first round pick of the Philadelphia Flyers, 20th overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
Laughton has spent his entire 12-year NHL career in the 'City of Brotherly Love', and currently this season has seven goals and 14 points in 31 games played with the Flyers.
For his career, Laughton has 102 goals and 150 assists in 632 games, and also is a near 50% faceoff winner through his time with the Flyers.
A previous article on HockeyPatrol described Laughton as "a 6'1, no-nonsense two-way forward who can win faceoffs, kill penalties, and give you 25-40 points any given season. He's also nasty with the puck too."
Laughton didn't have the most enthusiastic response when he was pranked while on a live podcast that he was being traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs last year.
A native of Oakville, ON, about an hour outside of Toronto, Laughton grew up playing for Toronto-based teams, including with the Toronto Marlboros of the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL).
Laughton is in year four of a five-year contract that takes him to the end of next season, signed for $3M annually.
It would be a cheap option to bring in Laughton to the Maple Leafs, and the versatility he offers should be enticing for Brad Treliving to pursue, so long as he doesn't break the bank.
After a decade playing in Philadelphia, Laughton could be a potential cost-friendly veteran option for the Toronto Maple Leafs if the Flyers move him out.
