Reason behind delay in Leafs coaching announcement revealed
It has been more than a week since the Toronto Maple Leafs have fired head coach Sheldon Keefe after yet another unsuccessful playoff campaign.
Despite a coaching search being on, a decision has not yet been reached and we now know why.
The Carolina Hurricanes have lost yet again in the second round versus the New York Rangers and with Rod Brind'Amour's future in question with an extension being due, the Leafs want to monitor his situation before committing to head coach favourite Craig Berube.
There's «no doubt» the Leafs will wait to see what happens with Rod Brind'Amour and potentially Joel Quenneville (who is in some trouble with the NHL) despite Craig Berube looking like the favorite to land the position.
They also want to take a look at Joel Quennville who has yet to be given the nod by the NHL to coach again since the incident with Kyle Beach and the Blackhawks.
For those wondering, there's been no change in Joel Quenneville's status with the #NHL. Probably the best coaching option out there to get Toronto over the hump, based on his track record of success coaching elite talent. Needs to be reinstated for that to happen.
Smart move by the Leafs, as they are taking their time for the right head coach that will lead this team past the obvious playoff hurdle.
