79 Goals out, 15 Goals in.

Yesterday, at the official opening of the free agent market, Brad Treliving and the Maple Leafs took quite a hit.

They lost many important players, such as Ryan O'Reilly, Michael Bunting, Alexander Kerfoot, Luke Schenn, Noel Acciari, and Justin Holl, and they only added Ryan Reaves, John Klingberg, and a few AHLers.

This is concerning. All the players who left scored a combined 79 goals last season, while the newest members of the organization only contributed 15 goals.

A Tight Situation

To this date, the Leafs have just $443K in cap space. However, with Jake Muzzin expected to be placed on the LTIR, they'll have around $6M available.

They are also confident that they'll get rid of Matt Murray's contract, which would increase the available cap space by around $11M.

Furthermore, they need to sign Ilya Samsonov, which is projected to take around $4M of the cap space.

Taking all this into consideration leads to a clear conclusion: the Leafs are stuck until they clear more players.

Murray is likely to be moved first, but something else will need to be done, especially if Treliving wants to keep Nylander and Matthews.

They need to acquire more players. A few potential candidates are still available on the market.

Names like Max Domi and Tyler Bertuzzi have been linked to the Leafs. I

f Treliving can convince them to sign for less money than they could get elsewhere, Toronto might just make it.
