Rory McIlroy is known as one of the best golfers of all time, but he also revealed some interesting information about the Maple Leafs' offseason plans after having dinner with someone in the organization.

The announcement immediately sparked speculation as to who exactly it was in the Leafs organization that McIlroy had dinner with. The leading theory is Keith Pelly, the CEO of MLSE and former CEO of the PGA European tour.

Rory Mcilroy has dinner with someone «intimately involved» with the Leafs. Gotta be Pelly right?

He even weighed in on the Maple Leafs and, like fans in Toronto have been saying for a half-century, said he hopes next year is the year.
"I would certainly love that, along with, I don't know, probably millions of locals and Canadians," Mcllroy said. "I don't know much about the Leafs, I had dinner with someone that's pretty intimately involved a few nights ago, so sounds like they're making some changes this off-season and hopefully that's the catalyst to hopefully that's the catalyst to making a run in the playoffs and maybe getting that Stanley Cup."

The world-class golfer revealed that he learned a few things about the Leafs during the dinner, including that the team is making some big offseason moves to hopefully get them into the Stanley Cup finals next year.

Rory McIlroy is hopeful that some changes the Leafs appear to be making will get them over the hump

Of course, the team has already made one notable move by firing head coach Sheldon Keefe and replacing him with Craig Berube.

🚨 CRAIG BERUBE IS THE NEXT COACH OF THE TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS 🚨

Is this one of the moves McIlroy was referring to? We will never know for sure, but Leafs fans are probably hoping not. After all, a head coach change is about as dime a dozen as they come in the NHL. It is not generally considered a major move, especially when it comes in the offseason.

Changing the bench boss alone likely will not be enough to get the Leafs into the promise land, so hopefully McIlroy heard a couple other things that could happen, but was advised not to reveal to the public. Only time will tell if that was the case or not.
