Sheldon Keefe told reporters this morning that he has actively been involved in the team's trade deadline plans. Apparently, he has been communicating with Brad Treliving regarding the team's needs as the March 8th deadline approaches. This has been a daily occurrence according to the coach.
it might seem as though the Leafs trade deadline is rather simple, but the team has a lot of priorities to sort out. While the team as a whole has been playing better lately, not everyone has gotten the memo.
One of the most important players on the team is the captain, John Tavares. Recently, his play has fallen off, leading to him being demoted to the third line. This is potentially a problem for the team as they now could be looking to add another center.
However, the team has had a bigger need on defense for most of the season. They were already thin on the blueline when the season started, but now things have only gotten worse as players deal with injuries. The team has been linked to Sharks defenseman Mario Ferraro, as well as center Luke Kunin. With the team reportedly interested in upgrading at both positions, we could see a package deal where both players are moved to Canada's largest city.
Regardless, it should be a very exciting trade deadline for Leafs fans. Be sure to stay tuned as Toronto figures to be a major player in the market this season.
