The National Hockey League disrespected the Toronto Maple Leafs' superstar Auston Matthews in an official press release.

When you score 69 goals in a regular season, which is 12 more than the second best in the League, and you're considered to be among best defensive forwards as you're nominated for the Selke Trophy, and not being nominated for the Hart Memorial Trophy, something's not working here.

That's what's happening with Matthews.

Alonsgide Aleksander Barkov and Jordan Staal, Matthews was nominated for the Selke Trophy. He also won the Maurice Rocket Richard, given to the top goal scored in the NHL.

So, he's one of the bests offensively and one of the bests defensively. How can he not be in the running for the most valuable player for his team?

The NHL nominated Nikita Kucherov, Nathan MacKinnon and Connor McDavid, of the Tampa Bay Lightning, Colorado Avalanche and Edmonton Oilers, for the Hart. They all had great seasons, don't get us wrong. Kucherov scored 144 points, including 44 goals; MacKinnon got 51 goals and 89 assists, and McDavid; 132 points, with 32 goals and 100 assists. Matthews scored 69 goals and 38 assists this season.

"2024 Hart Trophy finalists, as voted by @ThePHWA: Nikita Kucherov (TBL), Nathan MacKinnon (COL) and Connor McDavid (EDM)."

"I'm not surprised Matthews isn't on this list but I don't think any player has ever had 69 goals and a Selke nom in the same season. Could be wrong"

Do you think the NHL made a mistake by not nominating Auston Matthews for the Hart Trophy?
