It's not a secret that Nick Robertson has not lived up to expectations this season. After scoring five times in the preseason, he's scored two goals in 23 games and shown no signs of improvement.
Toronto is hard-pressed to get scoring on their left hand side and Robertson isn't doing the job. The team also needs a defensively sound center who could bring a big impact to the bottom half.
With Elliotte Friedman reporting yesterday that Nashville could be shopping center Juuso Parssinen, Toronto has the opportunity to help themselves and give Robertson a fresh start.
Robertson this season has been for lack of a better word, brutal.
From holding out in the summer for a trade elsewhere, to conceding and signing a one-year deal then exploding in the preseason.
He then preceded to implode this season and looked invisible a lot of the time. Often a healthy scratch, Robertson's time with Toronto is getting to the end, and he isn't doing much to persuade the team otherwise.
The Leafs need a defensive center who provides a bit of offense while holding down the middle; a crucial position Toronto lacks in. Adding Parssinen from Nashville will be a great choice.
Roughly the same age as Robertson, that's about all the similarities they have. Parssinen is 6'3, 212 pounds and doesn't have any issues winning faceoffs, throwing hits or blocking shots.
With the struggling Predators this season, Parssinen has two goals and three assists, adding more offense than Robertson while bringing in more of the style Craig Berube loves.
The Maple Leafs could use a young player like Parssinen who could be a huge factor for years to come as a key part of Toronto's bottom half. The team needs to move on from Robertson, and get themselves the piece they need.
Nashville needs scoring potential and Robertson alongside Jonathan Marchessault or Steven Stamkos could end up unlocking that offense locked inside.
Either way, it's a win-win situation for both teams.
