Three-way blockbuster trade proposal emerges between the Habs, Leafs and Ducks
A three-way blockbuster trade proposal between the Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Anaheim Ducks involving Mitch Marner emerged online.
With the NHL Combine currently going down in Buffalo, fans are eager to get the latest information from general managers about their plans for the Draft and free agency.
The Toronto Maple Leafs' general manager Brad Treliving provided interesting updates about multiple topics, including Mitch Marner.
Many reports suggested that the Leafs won't trade Marner this summer. Despite this, some rumors continue to gain traction online.
A massive scenario with the Ducks and the Canadiens was shared on X. The Leafs would send Marner to Anaheim, Anaheim would send Trevor Zegras to the Canadiens, who would give Justin Barron and a few draft picks to Toronto:
"🚨THREE WAY BLOCKBUSTER TRADE PROPOSAL: MTL-TOR-ANA🚨
Anaheim gives:
Trevor Zegras
Anaheim receives:
Mitch Marner (at 60% salary cap)
Toronto gives:
Mitch Marner
Toronto receives:
Justin Barron
Montreal 2025 1st (top 5 protected)
Winnipeg 2024 1st
Pittsburgh 2025 2nd
New Jersey or Vancouver 3rd, whichever is the better
Montreal gives:
Justin Barron
Montreal 2025 1st (top 5 protected)
Winnipeg 2024 1st
Pittsburgh 2025 2nd
New Jersey or Vancouver 3rd, whichever is the better
Montreal receives:
Trevor Zegras
40% of Marner's salary cap hit"
Anaheim would certainly be happy to get rid of Zegras, with all the reports of conflicts between him and his organization, but they'd be even happier to get Marner.
While Zegras was linked to Montreal on multiple occasions, it appears unlikely to see general manager Kent Hughes going after him on the trade market. In the past, Hughes also proved that he doesn't part ways with draft picks easily.
As for Toronto, they would get valuable draft picks and a young, talented defenseman who still has a lot to learn. However, other Habs defensemen could interest Brad Treliving, and he'd likely prefer someone else, even if it means getting fewer draft picks.
