In a recent article for Bleacher Report, Adam Gretz listed the top four destinations for legendary goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury. Each team on the list is a contender in their own right as Fleury will want to take another run at the elusive Stanley Cup.
The teams were the Colorado Avalanche, Edmonton Oilers, Carolina Hurricanes, and the Toronto Maple Leafs. Gretz reveals the Maple Leafs may be better served to address other needs but the goaltending could always be better plugged up.
He also mentions how the Leafs previously had a deal in place to acquire Marc-Andre Fleury.
As it stands, the Toronto Maple Leafs have three NHL goaltenders in Joseph Woll, Martin Jones, and Ilya Samsonov but each has either been inconsistent or injury-prone. While adding Fleury may put too many cooks in the kitchen, the goaltender has proven to be an elite playoff performer which the Leafs need the most.
While his statistics this season have not been the greatest, he has been playing rather well on a depleted Minnesota Wild roster. If he can play behind a structured defense like the Toronto Maple Leafs', then there is a good chance he will return to peak form for one final playoff run.
