Toronto Maple Leafs engaged in major controversy with animal rights group PETA
The Toronto Maple Leafs have come under fire by PETA due to their jersey sponsorship with Milk.
A war has started between MLSE CEO Keith Pelley and PETA president Ingrid Newkirk, over something as simple as a glass of milk, or so one would think.
PETA president Ingrid Newkirk is calling on MLSE CEO Keith Pelley and the #Leafs to ditch their partnership with the Dairy Farmers of Ontario and the «Milk» logo patch
The Leafs began their partnership with Milk during the 2022-23 NHL season. Their goal was to raise awareness and boost sales for the Dairy Farmers of Ontario.
The first-ever sponsorship patch on #leafs game sweaters will be the Dairy Farmers of Ontario's «Milk» logo
Newkirk claims that by the Leafs wearing this MIlk patch on their jerseys, they are supporting climate change that she states is being caused by the production of dairy milk.
"We hope you can appreciate the irony of an ice-based sports team accepting a sponsorship from the ice cap�melting dairy industry. Dairy farms are a significant contributor to the climate catastrophe"
Newkirk also believes that by the Leafs wearing this Milk patch on their jerseys, they are advocating for colon and prostate cancers, heart disease and chronic inflammation, as she believes these are caused by cow's milk, not to mention the gruesome effects of lactose intolerance.
There was some good news, however, as Newkirk did relate with all of the suffering that Leafs fans have gone through over the last several decades.
"Our condolences for this year's devastating playoff loss. So many Leafs fans have now endured decades of heartbreak, watching a team with so much talent and promise fail to piece together a successful Stanley Cup run"
The Maple Leafs have not provided any comments on this matter as of yet.
