Another year, another heartbreak in Boston. With Toronto losing their third in a row against Boston on Saturday, questions are starting to rise about the roster and their sudden downfall, and while it may be early; fans may need to panic a little.
Toronto is seemingly taking what they can during their slide, and while they earned at least a point in Boston, it's not enough for a team with so much hype around it. Head coach Craig Berube talked to reporters afterward about the loss, and had some positives to say out of such a negative result:
It's good the coach can find some positives even when fans can't. It's frustrating for Maple Leafs fans to see their team fall so suddenly. They haven't had any production outside of their Top 6, and nearly two-thirds of the bottom half of the lineup has been substandard, only scoring five points combined.
With the return of Calle Jarnkrok, Connor Dewar, Fraser Minten, and the pending debut of Jani Hakanpaa, Toronto has something else to be positive about. Perhaps these missing players are what's needed to kickstart the bottom half and get the wheels rolling again.
Dewar will provide a good scoring punch, as will Minten. Jarnkrok will play staunch defense and kill penalties, while also being able to contribute here and there offensively. Hakanpaa will come into a Maple Leafs defense that needs that elite shutdown defenseman, who won't make costly errors, and also gives the Maple Leafs another intimidating presence on the ice.
Craig Berube sees the positives in Toronto earning a point from Boston, but it remains to be seen how much longer he can stay positive if Toronto doesn't start to turn their season around.
