Brad Treliving already started earlier this week by trading for defenseman Ilya Lyubushkin. This move doesn't only help the Leafs' goal to reinforce their blue line, it also has almost no effect on the salary cap. Thanks to Treliving's clever maneuvering on the trade market, Lyubushkin uses only $687,500 of the Leafs' budget, which is less than the League's minimum wage.
With that in mind, we could really see the team make other moves, as they still have assets and money available.
One of the most coveted defensemen still available, Sean Walker, could interest the Leafs. However, a new report suggests that they are officially out of that derby.
On Saturday morning, Darren Dreger disclosed on Leafs Morning Take that the Flyers are looking to trade Walker and that the Toronto Maple Leafs aren't believed to be involved in those talks.
Walker would've been a great addition for the Leafs, but not at any cost. He's a valuable player, and the Flyers' price might be too steep for Treliving.
With other targets still available on the market, the GM still has time to make a move, but don't expect Walker to play for Toronto soon.
