After a breakout season in 2023/24, it was a surprise that Alex Nylander remained unsigned with August on the horizon, but now he's landed in perhaps the ideal spot.
On Sunday, the Toronto Marlies, the AHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs announced the signing of Nylander, who is the younger brother of superstar forward William.
After a slow start to the year in Pittsburgh, Nylander was traded to Columbus where he put together a fantastic run, tallying 11 goals and 16 points in just 23 games played, finally flashing his immense potential.
The former No. 8 overall pick had played in less than 100 NHL games before that run with Columbus, and with the Maple Leafs having opportunities in their bottom six, he could be an intriguing fit with the team.
However, he'll start the year in the Marlies and try and build on what a promising season he had, and if he continues his impressive development, the 26-year old may finally start living up to the promise he showed when he was drafted No. 8 overall by the Sabres back in 2016.
