The Toronto Maple Leafs are quite used to criticism at this point given their media market, but now one of their former players has seemingly set a subtle shot to the team.
During the latest edition of the Hyman Family Foundation golf tournament, former Maple Leaf Zach Hyman talked about why the Oilers are finding success, and one couldn't help but note the hint of a shot at his former team.
During his time with Toronto, the team routinely overpaid players and lost key depth pieces in free agency, and after their aggressive push this summer to bring players back under Jeff Jackson, it's safe to say that the Oilers don't have this issue.
He never explicitly mentions his former team, but especially after his improvements following his departure and the loss of Tyler Bertuzzi in free agency, it's easy to make the assumption that he was addressing them.
Regardless, this has been an issue for years in Toronto, and with Brad Treliving having
several free agency calls to make next summer, unless they can establish this culture, they may be in for many more years of losing players year after year.
