Gary Bettman Fines the Vancouver Canucks for Breaking a Major Rule
As if the 2022-23 season wasn't bad enough for the Vancouver Canucks, the team has earned itself a fine from the NHL to add insult to the injuries.
It has been revealed that the Canucks have been fined $50,000 by the league for violating the collective bargaining agreement with players.
The issue, according to Rick Dhaliwal, is that Vancouver held training sessions with members of the team in mid-April, after the regular season had ended. For a team that didn't make the playoffs, that's a violation of the CBA.
Vancouver's regular season was a disaster in many aspects. While expectations weren't extraordinarily high, many believed there would be some type of turnaround in play, with the Canucks perhaps even pushing for a playoff spot.
That didn't happen. Then, there was the very public debacle with coach Bruce Boudreau, who was left dangling for weeks knowing he was getting fired but not getting official word until his replacement could start.
Let's hope for better times in 2023-24. They could start tonight, depending on where the team lands in the NHL's Draft Lottery.
