NHL insider Elliotte Friedman revealed on the Jeff Marek show today that the Canucks have offered Lindholm a seven-year, 49 million dollar contract, which the 29-year-old center has rejected. As such, it seems as though Lindholm will be testing free agency this summer.
It makes sense why the Canucks would be interested in keeping Lindholm around. After all, he was arguably the team's best player in the playoffs, outside of perhaps Brock Boeser. He was a huge part of the teams success in the first round. However, is really worth such a huge contract?
This is not the first major contract offer Lindholm has rejected either. The Flames reportedly offered him an even bigger contract before they finally decided to trade him. However, the 29-year-old does not have great analytics, at least according to public models, and he started to show signs of age-related decline already last season. Even committing 7x7 to a player like this is risky.
