BREAKING : Longtime NHLer Carl Hagelin Retires From Hockey

Former NHLer and 2-time Stanley Cup Champion Carl Hagelin is retiring from the league.

Hagelin Announces Departure

Hagelin, 35, announced his retirement on Instagram, saying that he is saying goodbye to the NHL, citing an eye injury that has made it difficult for him to play. Hagelin suffered the eye injury at a Capitals practice in March of last year, having to undergo reconstructive surgery, and still suffering from limited vision as as result.

Hagelin last played in the 2021-22 season for the Washington Capitals, recording 3G & 14P in 53 GP. In 713 Games Played, he had 110 Goals, 186 Assists & 296 Points. Hagelin also won two back-to-back Stanley Cups with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2016 and 2017, as well as appearing in 128 Playoff Games an NHL record. Hagelin also won a Silver Medal with Sweden at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi.

Hagelin was a sixth-round selection of the New York Rangers in the 2007 NHL Draft (168th Overall). He made his NHL debut in 2011 with the Rangers, playing in 11 Seasons for the Rangers, Ducks, Penguins, Kings & Capitals.
