Alex Ovechkin confirms he is leaving the NHL for Russia
Recently Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals confirmed that he intends on one day leaving the NHL to finish out his career in Russia with Dynamo Moskva.
Currently chasing down Wayne Gretzky for the all-time lead in NHL goals scored, Alex Ovechkin has almost nothing to prove at the NHL level. Under contract for a few more seasons, the 2004 first overall pick has recently confirmed that he does not want to retire a Washington Capital but rather a member of Dynamo Moskva of the KHL.
Vladimir Fedosov, a former Dynamo Moskva coach, shared the following.
"He said himself that he would finish his career in Dynamo... the white-and-blue fans can definitely sleep easy. If Alexander's health is good, he will be able to play until the age of 45,"
Ovechkin, a native of Moskva, played with Dynamo Moskva before being drafted into the NHL and during the 2012-13 lockout captained their KHL team.
Fortunately for Capitals fans, the 38-year-old winger will stay in Washington for a little bit longer and once he has decided he has had enough with the NHL will return home to represent his hometown club.
