Devastating update on Capitals TJ Oshie: Has he played his last NHL game?
Washington Capitals forward T.J. Oshie has announced that he will not be playing hockey this season due to lingering injury and placed on LTIR.
Washington Capitals alternate captain T.J. Oshie completed his medical exam today, and his status is listed as injured. Oshie is expected to be placed on the long-term injury reserve list during the 2024-25 season.
Washington Capitals announced on Wednesday that forward T.J. Oshie will be placed on long-term injured reserve and therefore miss the entire 2024-2025 season.
"The last season was challenging for me, my family, and my teammates as I dealt with a chronic back injury that kept me out of the lineup," Oshie said in a statement. "I have used the offseason to explore and pursue long-term solutions for my injury. I remain committed to the process and am working and doing my best to regain total health. In the meantime, I will continue to help and support my teammates and the organization in any way I can. I greatly appreciate all of our fans' support during this time."
General Manager Chris Patrick has released the following statements about Oshie's health situation:
"We will support and assist T.J. as he seeks a lasting solution for his recurring injury. T.J. is a vital member of our team and continues to be an indispensable member of the organization and leadership group. Our organization fully backs him as he assesses his current health challenges." - Chris Patrick
Since joining the Capitals ahead of the 2015-16 season, Oshie has recorded 385 points (192g, 193a) in 567 games, ranking second on the team in goals in that span, only behind Alex Ovechkin. Oshie played in his 1,000th career game on March 16 in Vancouver, becoming the 12th player in franchise history to reach the mark in a Capitals sweater.
During the 2017-2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs showed a coming out party for Oshie.
In 24 game run towards capturing Lord Stanley Cup, Oshie proved why his acquisition was pivotal to the Capitals success. Not only was he a Buzzsaw on the ice night in and night out for the team his stat line vital in added depth scoring.
8G, 13A, 21P, and a +5 in the 24 Games.
T.J. Oshie has been through the wringer since, dealing with lingering back issues, a broken foot, core surgery, groin injuries and other ailments along the way. It's led to questions regarding the longevity of the 37-year-olds long term health.
With Oshie now being sidelined once again, but this time for the full season many questions will be asked.
Will this be the downfall to Oshies career, and what is the overall impact for the Capitals without one of their most consistence forwards.
T.J. Oshie has been a been a force for the Organization since joining in 2015, and with a already thin offensive core upfront its clear that GM Chris Patrick has a large task at hand.
