The Utah Hockey Club has made history tonight after making their first-ever trade during the 2024 NHL draft.

Ryan Smith has had the hard job of taking over and rebranding a major sports franchise. After buying out the Arizona Coyotes, he has officially started what is currently known as the Utah Hockey Club in Salt Lake City.

"Wellthe Arizona Coyotes have been officially terminated and Utah Hockey Club has been added to the NHL app. 😢"

Tonight, they made their very first draft pick at 6th overall. Utah decided to pull in 17-year-old forward Tij Inglia.

"The Utah Hockey Club selects 17-year-old center Tij Iginla with the sixth overall pick in the NHL Draft."

However, it appeared that Ryan Smith and other faces in Utah were not done for the evening. A little more than halfway through the first round of the draft, the Colorado Avalanche traded the 24th overall pick to the team for two second and third-round picks this year and one more next year.

"TRADE ALERT 🚨

@utahhockeyclub is back on the clock. Utah HC sends No. 38, 71, and a 2025 second round pick to the @Avalanche for No. 24."

Utah has officially pulled in Cole Beaudoin with this 24th overall pick. They will now wait until the third round for their 89th overall pick tomorrow.

"Utah makes their second pick of the first round and selects Cole Beaudoin! "
