Jets player Namestnikov rushed to the hospital after scary incident
The Jets have had a tough time gaining back their dominance over Colorado in the playoffs. Now, after their fourth game in the series, Winnipeg will have even greater obstacles to overcome after a player was rushed to the hospital following a scary incident.
The Winnipeg Jets have dominated the Avalanche during the regular NHL season, but have fallen flat since losing their second playoff game to the Colorado team. However, the game had to be put aside for a moment, after Vlad Namestnikov was down on the ground following a face hit from a flying puck, resulting in his departure from the game.
"Vlad Namestnikov leaves the game after taking a deflected slap shot to the face 🤕"
The player, understandably hurt after a slap shot ricocheted into his face, had to be assisted off the ice toward his stretcher. According to the Winnipeg Jets head coach, the player was brought to the hospital and is currently seeking treatment for his injuries.
"Winnipeg coach Rick Bowness said Vlad Namestnikov went to hospital for treatment after being hit by a shot."
According to medical professionals who watched the scene unfold, Namestnikov is likely in for a number of scans, and will likely be out for the season.
"Hoping for the best
Namestnikov likely will get a brain and facial bone scan to assess for broken bone(s) and rule out a brain bleed
Will also need thorough evaluation of his eye and ear
Wide range of outcomes but even best case his series is over"
Given the severity of the scene, many fans have taken the opportunity to advocate for better facial protection for NHL players. Though the bulk of additional headgear may slow down teams' progress, it is always better for players to remain as unharmed as possible.
"Serious question. When do NHLers start to wear more facial protection? That was scary, with Namestnikov taking a puck up high."
With the Colorado Avalanche up 3-1 against the Winnipeg Jets in their playoff series, it seems unlikely that Namestnikov can rejoin the team to advance in the playoffs. However, we join all NHL fans who saw the incident in hoping for the best and speediest recovery for this player.
