600-game Veteran Officially Retires From the NHL

A report tonight has confirmed that former NHLer Riley Sheahan has decided to retire from hockey after 637 games played.

The beginning of an NHL season always brings an end to the career of a few former NHL players. Today former NHLer Riley Sheahan confirmed he will be retiring from hockey at the age of 32. Despite only playing until the age of 32 Riley Sheahan played a 12-year NHL career before moving on to his next adventure.

Riley Sheahan was drafted 21st overall in the 2010 NHL Draft by the Detroit Red Wings. After being drafted Riley Sheahan would spend two seasons playing in the NCAA with the University of Notre Dame hockey program. He would go on to play 7 seasons in the Red Wings organization before heading to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Throughout his career, Riley Sheahan was considered a good role player who excelled in checking and defensive lines.

Riley Sheahan's first season with the Penguins would prove to be the best of his career as he tallied 32 points in 73 NHL games. After a two-year tenure with the Penguins, Riley Sheahan would bounce around for the rest of his NHL career. He spent seasons with the Edmonton Oilers, and Seattle Kraken before finishing up with the Buffalo Sabres.

He then decided to head to Europe for part of last season as his last stop in professional hockey. Overall in his career, Sheahan played 637 games and put up 194 points. As of now, it has not been announced what the next steps in his career will be.
