Fans have been upset with the reffs and there has been lots of talk about non-calls in the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs, especially in the semi-final series between the Montreal Canadiens and Vegas Golden Knights, at least one player believes things have been called fairly.
"You can sit here and complain about one play or the next but if the standard is the same on both sides and it's fair for both teams, that's the way it was last night, it was like that in previous games," said Alex Pietrangelo following his team's 2-1 overtime win in game four.
For their part, members of the Canadiens say they are trying not to concentrate on officiating. Defenceman Jeff Petry refused to comment on the refereeing, saying he just wants to focus on his game and not what's being called or not called. Teammate Brenden Gallagher agrees.
"Everyone's been watching, I don't think I need to comment too much on that side of it but for us it's just important as a group to keep our focus, controlling the things we can control and not wasting energy on things we can't."
Gallagher went on to say that he believes the longer the series goes the more it benefits the Habs.
"I think there are certain expectations on their side; the longer this series goes, the more the pressure just falls to them."
It is now a three game series as the teams are deadlocked at two games each. Game 5 goes Tuesday night in Las Vegas.
