The Seattle Kraken are reportedly being coached in tonight's Preseason game vs. the Calgary Flames by AHL Assistant Coach Jessica Campbell, in what appears to be the first time a Female coach will lead an NHL team in a game.

Kraken Give Opportunity To Top AHL Coach

Jessica Campbell, the Assistant Coach of the Kraken's AHL affiliate, the Coachella Valley Firebirds, will be coaching Seattle, giving a major opportunity to not only a female member of their coaching ranks but a respected coach in her own right.

Campbell, 31, has been with the Kraken as the Firebirds Assistant Coach since 2022, having been a former women's Hockey player, playing NCAA Hockey for Cornell, and then moving on to Pro Hockey with the CWHL's Calgary Inferno and in the Swedish Women's league for Malmo. Campbell had previously coached as an Assistant for the German men's club Nürnberg, as well as being a skills coach for Malmo's men's team.

Campbell isn't the only Female player getting coaching reps in the preseason, with the Penguins having Kori Chevelie as a guest coach for their game yesterday against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Campbell will coach the Kraken's split-squad team in Seattle, playing at 8 p.m. PT/7 p.m. MT, one of two games tonight, as well as a Game an hour prior in Calgary.
