The deadline for contract extensions for several hopefuls passed earlier this summer.
In fact, the Montreal Canadiens had to part with three of their prospects because of the huge amount of prospects they have. Each team has a 50 contract limit and with the amount of prospects the Tricolore has in the bank, this number would be difficult to respect in a few years.
Here are the three hopefuls whose rights the organisation has decided to release:
Joni Ikonen was the 58th overall pick in 2017.
Jacob LeGuerrier is the 126th overall pick in 2019.
Kieran Ruscheinski is the 206th overall pick in 2019.
It should be noted that the same scenario could happen again next year, when several prospects could leave the organisation if it so decides.
