According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, the Calgary Flames have left their captain Mark Giordano off their protection list. The Flames were hoping to protect him, but Friedman added that the cost to do that was way too high.
"Officially, the Flames left Mark Giordano unprotected. Cost was high to avoid that." Friedman said in a tweet on Sunday morning.
Giordano, 37, is entering the final year of a six-year deal where he'll earn $6.75 million. The Toronto, Ontario native played in all 56 regular season games for Calgary this season, tallying 26 points (9 G, 17 A), 15 penalty minutes, and was a +5.
