Insider Reports That the Maple Leafs Will Part Ways With a Member of Their Core-Four
The Toronto Maple Leafs cap situation is brutal. Their core four is locked up for another season, however, when it comes to extensions, they will need to make some tough decisions.
Mitchell Marner and John Tavares are under contract for a few more years, but Auston Matthews and William Nylander are due for a renewal.
Unfortunately for Nylander, his time in Toronto is likely over. Matthews will be the priority, and it will take a true fortune for him to stay a Toronto Maple Leaf.
Insider Nick Kypreos raised this idea of a departure to free agency for Nylander, who will likely be able to secure himself a massive contract.
With a Matthews contract bound to be in the range of $15-million annually, Nylander will have to find a new home. While he may love Toronto, his bank account won't be complaining!
