Could it all be coming to an end soon? It appears to be the case.
Avalanche general manager Joe Sakic revealed the 28-year-old winger in the forthcoming NHL Expansion Draft for the 32nd team, the Seattle Kraken. What better way to begin off hockey in the Pacific Northwest than with the new face of the franchise being a still young and experienced forward?
Furthermore, NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman had this to say on a new agreement with the Avalanche earlier today, as his seven-year contract with an AAV of $6.5 million came to an end:
"I don't think it gets done in Colorado if the cost is $60 million."
Landeskog appears to be on his way to brighter pastures, especially Seattle. Landeskog expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that contract negotiations haven't gone as planned, which is fair given that the Rocky Mountains are his sole NHL home.
"Landeskog remarked, "I can't help but be honest with you that I'm a little disappointed that it's gotten this far and that it's had to get to this point." "We'll have to wait and see what happens. I'm still hoping that we'll be able to agree on something and reach an agreement, but if it were up to me, I'd have wanted it done eight or ten months ago.»
In his most recent full season, 2018-19, he set a career high with 34 goals and 41 assists, with 27 of those points coming on the power play. While the expansion Vegas Golden Knights didn't get to enjoy such an established forward donning their brand new uniform in their inaugural season (at least not yet), Landeskog could make waves (pun intended) by joining the Kraken, giving them an immediate offensive punch as they look to establish themselves in the NHL.
