The current general manager of the Montreal Canadiens, Kent Hughes, has spent his life negotiating contracts for his clients.
Negotiation is his strength and he proved it again this summer, being on the other side of the desk as GM.
Hughes agreed to terms on a four-season contract with youngster Kirby Dach for an annual salary of $3.36 million. At the time, many thought that was a pretty high salary for a youngster who had not proven anything in the NHL.
Now, with the season the kid is having right now, he's proving just the opposite.
"Friendly reminder that Kirby Dach counts for a slight $3,362,500 on the payroll this season and will for the next 3 as well. Not bad eh!" - Marc-Olivier Beaudoin
Only 21 years old, remember, Dach is on a space of 70 points, if he plays all 82 games this season. So far, he has 17 points in 21 games.
