Potential Expansion Location
Former NHL goaltender Kevin Weekes announced on Twitter that Atlanta, Georgia could potentially be a landing spot for an NHL expansion team in the future.
Weekes plans to reveal more information regarding the potential team tomorrow.
Anger From Fans
While it certainly is an intriguing thought, another expansion in Atlanta may leave fans with a bitter taste in their mouth.
Atlanta was previously home to the Atlanta Flames from 1972-1980 before transitioning to what is currently known as the Calgary Flames. Atlanta got a second chance at an NHL team in 1999 with the Atlanta Thrashers. In 2011, however, the team relocated to Winnipeg and is now known as one of Canada's seven teams, the Winnipeg Jets.
