Losing a guy like Sandin isn't ideal for the Leafs, but as we've seen more and more in the NHL, injuries may turn into opportunities as the season winds down. If the Maple Leafs expect Sandin to miss the rest of the regular season, they can place him, and his cap charge, on LTR (LTIR).
This may provide Kyle Dubas more freedom at the trade deadline, albeit the Leafs will have little time to adjust as the deadline is now less than 2 hours away. It's not impossible, so it'll be intriguing to watch what happens when the Leafs reach the deadline on Monday.
NHL source Chris Johnston has confirmed McKenzie's allegation, which appears to be bad news for Sandin and the Maple Leafs. Sandin is now likely to be sidelined "weeks" rather than days, indicating a more serious injury for the rookie defenseman.
