The Senators and Covid situation made the NHL second guess the Olympics. The priority is to finish the 82 game season and nothing else.
«If we have to cancel games or postpone and rearrange games outside of our typical timeframe, that means we won't be able to compete in the Olympics. I believe that finishing our 82-game regular season, rather than competing in the Olympics, should be our top objective. I believe the Players' Association is aware of this. Back in September, Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly remarked, "So there's that trigger."
It's too soon to say what will happen, but one thing is guaranteed. If players want to compete in the Olympics, they must adhere to all COVID-19 protocols in order to keep the NHL schedule running smoothly.
