Robin Lehner has often been in the news for reasons other than his performance on the ice. He has been in a rehab facility in 2018 and has been very transparent with the hockey community about his struggles.
The man who won the Bill Masterton Trophy for the 2018-2019 season is also a person who is not afraid to be very assertive on sensitive topics. He speaks out about mental health, addiction and trauma in the hockey world.
This time, it is on the economic front that Lehner is making news. According to Sweden's Aftonbladet, the Golden Knights goalie must declare personal bankruptcy to pay off a $5 million debt in loans. The article says Lehner has reportedly already paid part of that amount, half a million dollars.
Note that Robin Lehner has not played and will not play in the 2022-2023 season as he had hip surgery last summer. He is still under contract with Las Vegas through 2024-2025 at $5 million per year.
