The reality is that the Philadelphia Flyers aren't doing good.
After eighteen games, the Flyers are 8-8-4, with 20 points and face a second consecutive postseason exit. You'd think veteran head coach Alain Vigneault would suffer the consequences, but Sportsnet NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman isn't so sure.
Friedman said on The Jeff Marek Show on Sportsnet 590 that the Flyers' ownership isn't interested in paying Vigneault for nothing and won't fire him because they can't afford it. In the same breath, Friedman wonders if former Flyers forward turned head coach turned media analyst Rick Tocchet could replace Vigneault.
"Alain Vigneault has term left, I think teams are really not thrilled about eating money right now coming out of COVID, they're definitely not interested in that...I've wondered about a guy like Rick Tocchet, it's just me kind of speculating".
- Elliotte Friedman
