Between now and the trade deadline on March 3, a deal between the Edmonton Oilers and the Montreal Canadiens appears to be in the works.
According to Sportsnet, Quebec's Xavier Bourgault is officially on the trade market. The Alberta organization wants to "win now" and this is the time for them to take risks. In 23 games this season in the AHL, the Oilers' 22nd overall pick in 2021 has 13 points.
In addition, the Oilers have been very interested in Tricolore back Joel Edmundson for some time. Ken Holland is actively looking for a top 4 defenseman and the CH defenseman could be the perfect candidate, especially with the playoffs approaching.
Finally, Edmundson's contract ends in 2023-2024, unlike a certain John Klingberg, which would make the price tag higher for Holland, but on the other hand, the GM will be assured that Edmundson will stay in Edmonton for another year.
