As Simon-O. Lorange of La Presse via Twitter, Sportsnet recently apologized to its viewers.
Here's why:
Sportsnet apologized to its viewers after several minutes of a hockey game were broadcast without a single reference to the game (gambling).
"At Sportsnet, the last thing we want to do is show sports and hockey," the press release read. "Rest assured that we remain committed to showing you endless, countless DraftKings and Bet 99 ads in your home."
Viewers were forced to endure a great hockey game, with several big goals, checks, and spectacular saves, and with no pressure to impulsively waste their money betting on the sport. We're sorry about that. - The Beaverton
But what exactly happened? Well, Sportsnet stopped an advert from a sports betting site to return to the game in progress. After that, it took a while before we saw ads like that again.
In the Sportsnet release, it is easy to see the spikes sent to other networks, such as TVA Sports, where Bet 99 and Bet GRW ads are ubiquitous.
