Steven Stamkos Reflects on the Toronto Security That Ended His Legendary 18 Point Streak
It was a great day for Markham, Ontario yesterday.
They got to watch hometown boy Mitch Marner score in his 19th consecutive game, breaking an all-time Toronto Maple Leafs record.
However, in the midst of this legendary run, fellow Markham native Steven Stamkos had his story to tell.
Hockey players are very superstitious, and in 2009-10, Stamkos' 18-game point streak came to an end due to a bout of bad luck.
After a game in Toronto, his sticks were stolen.
«I remember it like it was yesterday," said Stamkos of his streak ending. "Because my sticks got stolen after the game at the Toronto airport by Toronto security and then I didn't get a point the next game, so I remember that pretty clear.»
Stamkos couldn't extend his streak to 19, which makes Marner's achievement bittersweet.
