As reported by TVA Sports, the Montreal Canadiens have made an important decision regarding Juraj Slafkovsky, announcing his presence in the Blue-White-Red uniform for tonight's game against the St-Louis Blues.
All indications are that Slafkovsky will remain in Montreal for the remainder of the season as he takes an important step forward:
« Without much fanfare, the Montreal Canadiens have made an important decision regarding Juraj Slafkovsky.
Under a rule in the collective bargaining agreement, the date at which Slafkovsky can move to full autonomy has been moved up a year, as the Slovakian will be on the team's 23-man roster for a 40th game this season when the CH hosts the St. Louis Blues on Saturday night at the Bell Centre."
- TVA Sports
In short, if Kent Hughes wanted to see Slafkovsky play in Laval this year, he would have done so before tonight.
« As a rule of the collective agreement, Slafkovsky is a year ahead of his full autonomy as he will be in the Canadiens lineup for a 40th game tonight.
The CH could have avoided this by sending him to Laval, but decided to keep him.
Clearly, the Canadiens has no intention of demoting him to the AHL..."
- Nicolas Cloutier, TVA Sports
In 34 games this season, the young Slovak had 10 points in his first year in the National Hockey League.
