On Thursday, we saw three players announce they will officially be departing the NHL, choosing to sign overseas, likely due to the very limited spots we see available around the league right now.
Firstly is Swedish defenceman Gabriel Carlsson, who tallied a solid 81 games over his career after being drafted 29th overall back in 2015 by Columbus, recording 3 goals and 15 assists over that time.
Next is veteran Patrik Nemeth, a 31-year old defenceman who has played 504 games in the NHL for Detroit, Colorado, New York, Dallas and Arizona, putting together a solid 10 goals and 60 assists over that span.
Lastly is perhaps the most surprising in the form of 24-year old Canadian goaltender Dylan Ferguson, who last played with the Ottawa Senators in 2022-23, starting two games with a .940 save percentage and 2.52 GAA.
All of these names will be headed overseas, but with injuries, career revitalization and so many spots to be had, it wouldn't be a shock if any of them ended back in the NHL one day.
