In a recent article, HabsolumentFan shared with us the three candidate for the next GM position with the Canadiens.

The club announced Marc Bergevin's departure this afternoon, hired former New York Rangers general manager Jeff Gorton as vice-president of field hockey operations and let go Scott Mellanby, who was not in Geoff Molson's plans for the role of GM. Mathieu Darche, Martin Madden Jr., and Patrick Roy stand out.

Darche is presently the Tampa Bay Lightning's assistant general manager Julien Brisebois. During his three seasons with the Habs, he reportedly met Geoff Molson. This would be his first season as a GM in the National League. With Jeff Gorton as president of field hockey operations, he may be a great mentor for Darche. The organisation has not contacted him.

Martin Madden Jr. is an assistant general manager and amateur scouting expert for the Anaheim Ducks. He is a Quebecer with a lot of field hockey expertise. He was previously the Ducks' Director of Amateur Recruiting. As recruits.ca's Grant McCagg illustrates, he hasn't showed much since joining the Ducks organisation.

As we reported yesterday, the organisation has not contacted Patrick Roy in recent days, and his agency has stated that they have never spoken to the Habs. However, he is a legend of the Blue White and Red and has been excellent with the Remparts in recent years.
