According to some listings on the renowned ticket reselling website StubHub, the Stanley Cup Final in Montreal may have reached an all-time high in terms of the National Hockey League. At the time of writing, there are three ads, each of which is linked to a pair of tickets, for Game 6 of the Cup Final that are priced for around $35,000. In two of those cases, each ticket costs more than $35,000, equating to a total expenditure of more than $70,000 for only two seats to a Stanley Cup Cup Final game.
As I previously stated, I believe there are two key causes driving up the price in this case. The first is, of course, the nearly 30-year Cup drought in one of the world's most fervent hockey markets, if not the most fervent. For some Canadiens supporters, seeing their team win a title on home ice may be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
The pandemic is the other, and arguably more important, element. The fact is that only 3,500 supporters will be allowed into the Bell Center for any of these games as of right now, significantly increasing the scarcity of tickets for these games. Ticket resellers are well aware of this, and they're aiming to get the most money out of the limited amount of Final tickets they've been able to obtain.
