With the Montreal Canadiens having one of their worst seasons in franchise History, we know the Habs are going to tear this down and fix this mess. With that said the Canadiens need figure out what is Shea Weber going to do?
We haven't heard much about him other then speculation that he's done and will retire. Weber has five seasons remaining on his Contract with worth some big money, $7.857 million per year for the 36 year old defenseman.
The possible reason why Weber hasn't retired yet is if Shea decides to retire because of his injuries, the Nashville Predators would have a «cap recapture» penalty of just over$4.9 million per seasonthrough 2025-26. Elliotte Friedman spoke on this saying Shea didn't want to do that to Nashville as he loved his time there.
Either way Jeff Gorton needs to find out what Shea's plans are going into next season. Shea has played in 1036 regular season games that don't include all those playoffs and representing Canada in various tournaments.
