Yaroslav Askarov is still awaiting his turn to be traded, but we can only assume that is going to happen fairly quickly now that the attention is officially off of Patrik Laine after Columbus traded him to Montreal. Here are three other players that could demand a trade next.
Bobby Brink was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2nd-round of the 2019 NHL Draft. Brink managed to put up a fantastic 92 points in the 67 NCAA games he's played with the University of Denver. The problem is, he hasn't been able to replicate that success in the NHL yet.
Bobby Brink is only 22-years-old, so he has a lot of time to develop into the great player the Flyers thought he'd be, but he has been a healthy scratch multiple times and the team hasn't been able to figure out which line and which teammates suit him best. He's only managed to play in 57 career NHL games, where he has scored 11 times and added 12 assists.
The problem for Bobby Brink is that he has some major competition with the likes of Morgan Frost, Matvei Michkov and Tyson Foerster, so if he doesn't get the playing time he's looking for, chances are high he demands a trade.
Alex Turcotte was drafted 5th overall by the Los Angeles Kings at the 2019 NHL Draft. He is now 23-years-old and has only ever played in 32 NHL games, with only one NHL goal to his name and three assists. He did have a really good season in the AHL last year with the Ontario Reign, where he scored 10 goals and 29 points in 35 games before being called up to the NHL.
The Kings have just signed Alex Turcotte to a three-year contract in what many are calling a bridge deal, as they are hopeful he can develop into a star player. Similarly to what Bobby Brink has to deal with, the Kings have a lot of forwards that are pushing for roster spots, such as Trevor Moore, Alex Laferriere and Warren Foegele, and Anze Kopitar is still ahead of Turcotte in the centreman depth chart, so if he wants to truly flourish, he'll likely have to leave LA.
Times are tough for the Calgary Flames, as the team isn't expected to make a push for the playoffs. However, Rasmus Andersson is now 27 and has been a bright spot for the team, having posted at least 39 points for the last three seasons and 50 in 2022.
The problem is now that Rasmus Andersson is in his prime, he likely won't be winning much over the next few years staying in Calgary, and if he wants to put his skill to the best use possible, it will have to be on a team ready to do damage and challenge for the Stanley Cup.
It will be interesting to see who in the NHL requests a trade next, and it would be no surprise to anyone if it's one of these three mentioned players.
