It was just announced that the Montreal Canadiens have acquired Jakov Novak's signing rights from the Ottawa Senators for future considerations.

Novak spent last season split between Northeastern University in the NCAA and the Allen Americans of the ECHL. In the ECHL, he impressed posting 12 points in 14 games but his NCAA numbers were far behind with 12 points in 35 games.
Novak originally was picked by the Senators in the 7th round of the 2018 draft. At 6'3", Novak will surely have a career in hockey but it is unknown if he will ever make it to the NHL.
The Canadiens are taking a bet on him and if it pays off, they could get a reliable NHLer out of it.
